As a Chicago wedding planner, our goal was to transform the iconic Drake Hotel ballroom into something that felt bold, refined, and personal to Nicole and Jerron. We embraced the luxury aesthetic of the Gold Coast Room and layered it with deep, saturated tones and rich textures. The result? A luxury hotel wedding in Chicago that balanced grandeur with intention. We were able to create an editorial celebration full of character!

The Drake Hotel Chicago: A Historic Venue for a Modern Wedding

The couple exchanged vows beneath a custom chuppah designed by Life in Bloom, overflowing with fall foliage and lush blooms. The structure, built by the groom’s father, added a deeply personal touch and created a meaningful focal point for their ceremony. Music from Innocenti Strings added warmth and depth to the ceremony, setting the tone for an emotional start. To make the moment even more special, Nicole’s grandmother’s artwork was displayed nearby. This special touch really wove family legacy into the heart of the day. Everything about this wedding was filled with intention.

Designing a Moody + Elegant Drake Hotel Wedding Reception

For their Drake Hotel Chicago wedding, the couple wanted a setting that felt timeless and imaginative. When we asked them about their vision, they told us, “Met Gala Camp Meets Dark Academia,” so we knew we’d have to elevate the ceremony in an entirely unique way. We leaned into the venue’s architectural beauty, while bringing in elements inspired by dark academia and old-world romance. Velvet linens, soft candlelight, and rich floral arrangements filled the room. We were able to transform the ballroom into a venue space that felt intimate, warm and luxurious.

Every element was considered, from the stationery suite designed by Steracle Press to the elegant rentals from BBJ La Tavola. Even Nicole’s timeless look, with hair and makeup by Anomalie Beauty Agency, perfectly complemented the moody palette of the day. Guests enjoyed an incredible culinary experience with a multi-station cocktail hour featuring sushi, barbecue, and a raw bar. This was followed by The Drake’s signature Champagne Parade to begin dinner. Later in the evening, an indulgent dessert spread of donuts, pies, and skillet s’mores tied the night together! 

A Celebration That Brought The Drake Hotel to Life

After dinner, the celebration came to life with music from DJ Megan Taylor of FIG Media, who kept the dance floor full until the very end of the night. Guests had fun capturing memories with Snap Booth Chicago, while A Forevermore Co. documented behind-the-scenes moments for social content that perfectly reflected the spirit of the day. A unique FêteFone guest book added an interactive touch, inviting loved ones to record messages for the couple to cherish forever. The night was so much fun and filled with so many personal touches that reflected Nicole and Jerron.

Every detail of the day was beautifully documented by Jamie Loren of Loren Weddings, whose editorial eye captured the emotion and artistry of the day.
